WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW?
Currently, diversion of level 2 patients out of Critical Care is not required.
Patients who would typically require referral to the intensivist (or delegate) as per usual practice for admission to Critical Care should still be referred with the usual thresholds.
WHAT COULD BE REQUIRED IN THE FUTURE?
At this time, these strategies are not needed. There are several patients of intermediate acuity that may require management outside of the ICU depending on critical care capacity. We are working to develop guidelines for the care of some of these patients in different intermediate-acuity settings.
